366 hours in one minute. A Year of Hands is made up of 366 drawings of my hands in ink on watercolour paper, drawn every day for one hour, life-size, from life, using both hands, from 5th August 2023 to 4th August 2024. I chose the position of my hands each day to depict a series of commonplace movements. The sound, which I created from instruments, toys and vocalisations, echoes the stroking and tapping movements of my hands. Completion date: 15th August 2024. [60 seconds]

A Year of Hands was a Finalist in the 2025 Absurd Art House Film Festival, with a live screening at the Criterion Music Hall and Theatre, Blue Town, Sheerness, Kent, on Saturday 5th April 2025.

A Year of Hands was an Official Selection in the 2025 Brighton International Animation Festival, with a live screening at Fabrica, Duke Street, Brighton, on Saturday 5th April 2025, in the 'Sound and Vision' section. A specially-made version will be shown, which has captions (scattered about the screen) to represent sounds.

A Year of Hands was included in a showreel in A Question of Drawing at Ilkon (Ilkeston Contemporary Arts), Derbyshire, 23rd January - 8th February 2025.

A Year of Hands was an Official Selection and Winner of Best International Super Short Animation in the 2024 Newcastle International Short Film Festival, with a live screening at the Royal Exchange Salon Theatre, Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, on Friday 22nd November 2024.

A Year of Hands was an Official Selection in the Life Screenings One Minute Film Festival - September 2024. Curated by Banks Helfrich. Screened via Facebook on Saturday 28th September 2024, including participation by Cally Trench in a Q&A with the curator. This was the festival premiere of A Year of Hands.

A version of A Year of Hands has 'sub-titles' in different sizes, shades of grey and typographical emphasis, scattered about the screen so as to represent the sound without interfering with the drawings. This version was shown at the 2025 Brighton International Animation Festival.
