CAROLINE MEYNELL

Treescape IX by Caroline Meynell

Caroline Meynell, Treescape IX, Blaenau Isaf series, 2005
Oil and beeswax on canvas, 10 x 10 inches

Caroline Meynell's work is an exploration of the infinite possibilities of paint: how it is moulded, sensed, manipulated through a variety of processes. She uses thin layers of paint for creating depths, transparency and a sense of space, and the starting point is invariably landscapes of personal significance. A constant theme in her work is the way density is transformed by light.

Although the paintings can be deceptively simple, it is in their simplicity that a sense of place, a sense of space and a sense of light are evoked.
