CALLY TRENCH

Away by Cally Trench

Cally Trench, Away
Acrylic on paper, 15 x 10 cm

Cally Trench writes: I like fishing about in the strange, shifting, subterranean world of my memory - a private, patchy place where fact, fiction and fantasy collide, images slide out of focus as I try to pin them down, and unexpected gaps have to be filled by imagination.

As the organiser of the Sketchbook Circle, I believe that we experienced pleasure, generosity and excitement. There was the pleasure of looking at what another artist has conjured up out of a blank page - often being the first person to see it. All works of art are acts of generosity towards the viewers, but sharing the kind of initial ideas, experiments and moments of madness found in sketchbooks requires trust and faith in the other artists you are sharing with. The start of a new project is an exciting opportunity; those blank white pages led us all over the place.
