Cally Trench's films
Pink House (2016) is a very short animation film based on one of Cally Trench's linocut prints, with music written specially for the film by composer Josh Hagley. When disaster strikes, we just want the world to go back to the way it was before. As the sea recedes, the impossible happens. The sea features from start to finish, being the main actor - but it appears as an absence, a area of white defined only by its wave-form top edge. [42 seconds] Completion date: 29th November 2016. |
"Love the videos with the music. Work well together, enhance each other to make one fuller, more complex whole." (Sophie Loss, 2017) |
Pink House was a Nominee for Best One Minute Film in the 2022 Indiefilmopolis Film Festival, with a live screening at the Actress & Bishop in The Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham on 27th February 2022, including participation by Cally Trench in a Q&A. "As the sea level recedes a house reconstructs itself - this is Pink House by animator Cally Trench, which despite being a little over 40 seconds in length, has a lot to say and provides us with plenty to consider, from climate change to the linear nature of time. The music and superb animation work perfectly together and are both as haunting as they are hypnotic. The animation itself has a somewhat nostalgic feel which melds perfectly with the reversal of time aspect of the film.A brilliant, strangely calming and intriguing animation that we could watch endlessly."
