Jennifer Partridge and Steve Perfec chose to disregard the history of the Brownie 127; they have substituted it (adapted for 35mm colour film) for their i-phone and digital camera, and are taking snap shots. They started in June and already the photographs are memories: friends coming over, a trip to Sainsburys, working in the lean-to greenhouse. Each photograph generates a short text capturing one facet of the experience: the moment when they took the photograph, scanning the film, and the event as they recall it now. They attempt to capture the stages memories pass through as they are handled and compared by the processes of two minds. Jennifer Partridge and Steve Perfect used 35mm film in the camera, held in place with the help of a tap washer. They scanned the film in a modern film scanner and processed in Photoshop for minor corrections to exposure and colour. Steve Perfect has an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, where he worked exclusively with lens-based media. His photographic works have been selected for exhibitions including The Creekside Open (2009), New Greenham Open (2010) and Photofusion Salon (2013). He has photobooks in many collections including the Tate and V&A. Jennifer Partridge is an experienced educator with a special interest in history and the archive. They are travelling together to make work for this project. |
